A New Summer Series in Håkonshallen

— Unique musical moments in the country's best-preserved, historic concert hall.

It is with excitement that Aulaseriene this August will launch a new summer series in Bergen, The Håkonshall Concerts. This step takes us further in complementing and creating a vibrant chamber music scene in Bergen throughout the year.

A renewed beginning. For decades, Grieg in Bergen has made a significant contribution to the chamber music scene in the Bergen region every summer. In recent years, the festival has taken place in Håkonshallen — and it is with excitement that Aulaseriene now takes over the baton to further develop the summer programme in the historic Håkonshallen.

— Through several years of collaboration with Michael Süssmann, it is an honour to take over such a highly regarded concert initiative. Grieg in Bergen has meant a lot to many audiences and performers, myself included. Now we will roll up our sleeves to develop a renewed series in Håkonshallen, says pianist and Artistic Director Thormod Rønning Kvam.

A first try in August. The Håkonshall Concerts this year will be an intensive pilot for what Aulaseriene aims to develop in the coming years. In addition to the regular concerts in University Aula throughout autumn, winter and spring, the new series in Håkonshallen will complement and complete the program offered to audiences in the Bergen region — also in collaboration with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra.

The initiative would not have been possible without continued support from both Vestland County Council and the Norwegian Arts Council, which has previously supported the MusicaNord Foundation and Grieg in Bergen.

Our gratitude goes to these, as well as to Aulaserienes' contributors both in Bergen and nationally: Shipowner Tom Wilhelmsen's Foundation, Westfal-Larsen's Charity Foundation, Hilmar Reksten's Charity Foundation and Anders Sveaas' Charity Foundation, as well as the Ramme Foundation, Norwegian Bank Savings Foundation and Grev Wedels Plass Auctions.
