— It is with great pleasure that we can finally launch our new venture into chamber music in University Aula in Bergen. This unique space, located in the same building as the Natural History Museum, is both an aesthetic jewel and acoustically very suitable for this genre, says Thormod Rønning Kvam, artistic director of Aulaseriene .
The concert series is being established in a long-term collaboration with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. The goal is to create a new and important addition to the city's musical life throughout the year, and not least to welcome the city's population into a magnificent hall that we hope many more people will become familiar with, says Bernt Bauge, director of the Music Society The harmony .
There will be three concerts this fall, all on Fridays at 7:00 PM, lasting one hour, continues Kvam.
— The opening concert will take place on Friday, September 20th at 7 p.m. . Among other things, we will hear one of the most complete chamber music works in music history: Johannes Brahms's mighty piano quintet. The pianist is Joachim Carr, who is currently our only Norwegian winner of the Edvard Grieg International Piano Competition after it was established at Troldhaugen. With him is the Bergen String Quartet, which is marking itself as one of the city's most prominent new ensembles. The quartet originated from Harmonien, with concertmaster Alexander Kagan as first violinist, says program manager Oddmund Økland.
The next concerts in the series are on October 25th , when Saint-Saëns' rarely played second piano quartet with Melina Mandozzi and Christian Grøvlen, among others, will take the stage. The last of the autumn will be on November 8th , when Bergen will be visited by one of the world's leading piano trios: Trio con Brio Copenhagen. They bring with them a versatile programme including music from Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet and the Norwegian premiere of a brand new piano trio by Danish Bent Sørensen.
The initiative has been realized with generous support from two important supporters in Bergen: Westfal-Larsens Almennyttige Fond and Hilmar Reksten Almennyttige Fond. In addition, Aulaseriene with funds from, among others, Tom Wilhelmsen's Foundation, Anders Sveaas' Almennyttige Fond and the Framework Foundation for Arts, Culture and Nature in the development of the initiative.
